Hello dear readers, I’m back from the land of whirling
dervishes, fairy chimneys and kebabs. Wondering what I’m talking about? In pure
gastronomypix style, I brought home countless food pictures to share and
insights on where/what to eat so stay tuned. Meanwhile, I leave you with one of
my last meals, fish shish kebab.
Note: I am out for two weeks for another gastronomy experience in an exciting country! So I will be scheduling posts of pictures mostly from my Spring semester food writing class at Stanford- better late than never!
On our last class, we were requested to write about a food that reminds us about our childhood and bring it to class. I wrote about lechon and obviously couldn't bring one to school with me! Ha! So I ended up bringing miso rice crispies instead. And here are what my other classmates brought starting with mud pie (because desserts come first) and rice-a-roni:

Gush. If you're a big fan of the Food Network or just food in general, you can spot these chef celebrities in a mile!

Driving on a sleepy street on Noe Valley, I suddenly saw throngs of people on one end of a sidewalk. This should be it, my brunch pit stop of the day. Even for a cloudy early Sunday morning, Chloe's Cafe was already packed. For a group of 3, we waited for 30 minutes to get our seats.
The size inside the cafe is cutesy small as expected in any sidewalk cafe in the city. The kitchen was tiny, and the bathroom sink was a kitchen sink. The food all made up for the long wait and crowded space though.
Tip: Cash only. Give yourself a treat and order the pancakes.

I am trying to channel positive energy to end the year with a big bang. I've been doing this for many years now, and it always seems bittersweet in the end.
Going home has made me realize the things I have and that I've been getting the best of both worlds (actually many worlds). Many don't understand what this really means until they've experienced it themselves. I always believe that some things are better left unsaid (or in this case, unwritten), so I just leave you with these to channel your own inner being :)

What do you do with a 2-year old who is being trained to be a future chef just like his parents during the weekend? On a sunny Saturday, we found ourselves in the Farmer's Market in order to teach him the importance of picking the right fresh, organic produce (besides from trying to wear him out from running around a thick crowd).

DeLise is gearing up for the annual food event of the year, SF Chefs. Joining top restauranteurs for this coming Friday, August 3rd, night opening celebration and grand tasting event, DeLise is partnering up with Illy coffee to create coffee concoctions in a form of macarons and cupcakes.
After a hard day's work, join the after party (aptly called Steamed, Fried and Shanghai'd) at the newly renovated E&O.

I am surprised that this is the nth time I ate at a Banana Leaf restaurant. Are they franchised? I have seen a Banana Leaf in different Asian cities and now at Milpitas, California. All the Banana Leaf restaurants I have been to serve Southeast Asian cuisine although the taste and menu are different from other restaurants. Can anyone shed some light on this?
I did stuff myself at this particular Banana Leaf with lots of prawns and mangoes during lunch time. Glutony alert!
