Thou Shall Not Poop While Eating

From Hello Kitty to Barbie cafes, themed establishments are all the rave in Taipei. One that doesn't need any introduction is Modern Toilet. Taking from its name, the restaurant looks like a glorified bathroom with food served in bathroom-ware (I made up this term).

Lunch at their Ximending outpost with my mum perfectly fit in our itinerary for the day, which was all meant for shopping, eating and more exploring. Right when we climbed up to the first floor of Modern Toilet, it was obvious that most diners are in their teens or are college students. The feeling brought me back to my teeny bopper days. Mum also gamely sat on a non-working toilet bowl with a nicely decorated cover sicne she remembered reading an article about Modern Toilet on an international magazine.

I had low expectations of the food quality itself, but, boy oh boy, was I in for a surprise. The chicken curry came in a black toilet bowl as big as my face so just imagine my problem having to take a photo of the entire set meal with a 35mm macro lens. I had to move so far away from my cushioned seat to get the image below. As for the chicken, it was not as bad as I thought it would be for the price.

Not bad for a chicken curry in a mini-toilet bowl.
Cute, catchy logo for a restaurant
Wonder how much these toilet seats are.
Sipping black tea from a petite toilet bowl. Check out those bathroom tiles on the wall.
The tube lighting actually helped out brighten up my food photos.
I don't understand what this bathroom-ware plate used for the seafood pasta is, do you?
Our neighbor got a green toilet for their hotpot.
The mum inspecting her chocolate dessert. Or is it poop?
Time for Poopoo
The star of the day was definitely the chocolate yogurt desset that was perfectly shaped like a poop served on a mini infant potty seat. I was of course trigger happy with my camera, but what I wondered the most is the cost of all the custom, multi-colored bathroom-ware they used as serving platters. Anyone know?
Too perfect to be a replica of a human's poop.
Matched my hairdo with my dessert.
My tea cup and dessert cup. So cute.
More souvenirs to brings home.
This one made me smile.
No touching the humidifier!
My visit at the Modern Toilet proved to be worthwhile. Every nook and cranny of this place is picture worthy. It is an understatement to say that the food presentation is unique. You won't find the toilet bowl kitchenware anywhere else! The food might not be a Michelin-awardee, but dining at Modern Toilet is definitely an experience to remember.
