Food Shot 201: POV

Before I begin with my usual spiel in food photography, may I congratulate the newlywed royal couples. I honestly think though that Pippa, the bride's younger sister, was the star of the show.

Do you know what POV stands for? I was first introduced to this acronym during film studies, specifically when looking through the lens. Everything has to have a POV - Point of View. As such, food shots also need POV. I see most people just shooting 30 degrees from the food on the table which is how we usually see the plated food in front of us.

Check out the example of stack of cookies (or shall I say, biscuits with a British twang) below. Cookies are not usually served stacked from bottom up. It's either a cookie is laying flat or sideways when you open a grocery bought box of choco chips.

Which do you think has the best POV?
